The US’ apparel imports from the Philippines increased to $752.152 million in 2022, up from $605.936 million in 2021 and $470.692 million in the previous year. This represents a 60 per cent increase over the past two years. In 2022, US imports jumped 24.29 per cent over the previous year's shipment, according to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro.
It is important to note that the US’ apparel imports from the Philippines had slipped to $470.692 million during 2020, a 38.48 per cent drop due to COVID-related disruptions. In 2019, the trade was recorded at $764.051 million, and in 2018 it was $793.293 million. This shows that the trade had already been experiencing a downward trend before COVID-19.
The Philippines supplied just 0.75 per cent of the total apparel imports to the US in the last year. In 2022, the US imported apparel worth $100.278 billion, while its imports from the Philippines were $752.152 million, as per TexPro. The Philippines ranks 21st among the largest markets from where US imports apparel.
