The US consumer price index for all urban consumers (CPI-U) rose by 0.4 per cent in October on a seasonally-adjusted basis, the same as in September, according to the US Bureau of Labour Statistics (BLS). Over the last 12 months, the all items index increased by 7.7 per cent before seasonal adjustment. The energy index increased by 1.8 per cent over the month as the gasoline and electricity indices rose, but the natural gas index decreased.The index for all items less food and energy rose by 0.3 per cent in October, after rising by 0.6 per cent in September.

The energy index increased by 17.6 per cent for the 12 months ending October. The gasoline index increased by 17.5 per cent over the span and the fuel oil index rose by 68.5 per cent. The index for electricity rose by 14.1 per cent over the last 12 months, and the index for natural gas increased by 20 per cent over the same period.
