Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc recently asked the garment-textile and footwear sectors to promote the building of domestic brands and supply chain linkages, and develop supporting industries. During a working session with the sectors’ representatives in Hanoi, he urged the sectors to make effective use of free trade agreements (FTAs).

Exports from these industries account for a large proportion of the total national export turnover, he said. In 2019, these two industries exported products worth $62 billion, equivalent to 24 per cent of the country's total.
According to the Vietnam National Textile and Garment Group, the country’s textile and garment industry is projected to earn about $33.5-34 billion from exports this year.
