Spain's Inditex partners with Renewcell for eco-friendly Circulose

The integration of Circulose comes under a specific agreement with Tangshan Sanyou, a fibre producer responsible for the industrial transformation of the pulp into textile fibre. As part of this deal, Inditex's suppliers will procure the first 2,000 tonnes of raw material, consisting of a blend of Circulose and cellulose from sustainably managed forests, the company said in a media release.

Renewcell has recently launched its first industrial-scale plant for Circulose production. The plant employs a chemical process to recycle cotton waste into this next-generation pulp. Inditex plans to phase in Circulose through its broad network of suppliers over the coming seasons.

This initiative aligns with Inditex's long-term environmental strategy aimed at using only textile raw materials that have a reduced impact on the environment by 2030. The group aims for at least 25 per cent of its fibres to come from next-generation materials that are currently not produced at an industrial scale. This objective is in line with the efforts of Canopy, an environmental NGO, to promote next-generation cellulose fibres.
