After an intense selection process at the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) headquarters, Abrol emerged as the winner, beating a line-up of five shortlisted designers. He will receive a grant of ₹8 lakhs from Nexa to showcase his work at the upcoming Lakmé Fashion Week X FDCI, scheduled between October 11-15, 2023.
The jury for the event comprised industry stalwarts, including Shashank Srivastava, senior executive director of marketing and sales at Maruti Suzuki India Limited; Sunil Sethi, chairman of FDCI; and Jaspreet Chandok, group vice president at Reliance Brands, among others.
Abrol’s collection, inspired by the odyssey of a soldier, captures themes of unity and transformation. His work, described as an "extraordinary journey of transcending boundaries," was highly praised for its creative expression and alignment with Nexa's theme of the season, Veracity.
According to Shashank Srivastava, the design presentation and show concept of Sushant Abrol was "exceptional in terms of thought process, creation, and execution." Sunil Sethi of FDCI echoed this sentiment, stating that anticipation surrounds Abrol's upcoming runway presentation.
This year's competition furthers Nexa and Lakmé Fashion Week's commitment to nurturing upcoming talent and inspiring a new league of designers in India.
