The Cotton Council International (CCI) recently hosted its first technical seminar in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Around 120 executives from 64 mills participated in the seminar. The event provided a platform for interaction between local spinning mills, CCI, and textile machinery companies, to discuss manufacturing process improvements with mills using US cotton.

William Bettendorf, CCI director of supply chain marketing and director, South and Southeast Asia, gave a presentation on the US Cotton Trust Protocol and traceability, crucial topics to share with the mills in attendance as the industry is actively pushing toward sustainability in textiles, according to CCI.

Shuichi Hashimoto, area sales manager of Murata Machinery in Japan, talked about sustainability and e-commerce in relation to textile machinery and went into details of the processes in relation to US cotton. At the end of the presentation, he answered questions on machine speed and efficiency.

Majibur Rahman, general manager-production of Envoy Textiles, presented on why to use US cotton in production and highlighted the premium quality of US cotton and its ease in production.

C. Ramanadane, senior general manager of Lakshmi Machine Works in India, gave the seminar’s final presentation on ‘Smart Process in Spinning Technology’. He discussed how new machinery is greatly impacting on spinning processes in the mills in terms of productivity and efficiency.

Cotton US technical seminars capitalise on results of recent research projects that demonstrated the significant technical and financial advantages of using US cotton-rich yarns in the manufacture of knitted garments and woven fabric. CCI has previously held technical seminars in Indonesia, Vietnam, and India.
