New civil society organisations and brands have joined the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI). BCI brand members support a more sustainable future for cotton production. It is the largest cotton sustainability programme in the world. The BCI aims to transform cotton production worldwide by developing Better Cotton as a sustainable mainstream commodity.
The BCI welcomed Takko Holding GmbH (Germany), Target Australia Pty Ltd (Australia), Coolinvestments Group (the Netherlands) and Task International BV (the Netherlands) as the newest retailer and brand members to join BCI in the second quarter of 2018.New civil society organisations and brands have joined the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI). BCI also welcomed new civil society organisations Sawera Foundation (Pakistan), Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (India), Responsible Sourcing Network, a project of As You Sow, (United States), Rural Business Development Centre (Pakistan) and Centers For International Projects Trust (India).
BCI brand members pay a fee to BCI based on the amount of cotton they source as Better Cotton. This fee is invested into training 1.6 million BCI farmers on more sustainable agricultural practices like reducing inputs (water, pesticides) and addressing gender equality and child labour issues.
Civil society members are progressive not-for-profit organisations who are taking decisive steps towards securing a more sustainable future for cotton production by partnering with the BCI. (GK)
