  • DGFT and DHL have partnered to boost India's e-commerce exports by empowering MSMEs through comprehensive training and capacity-building as part of the 'District as Export Hubs' initiative.
  • This collaboration focuses on 76 districts, aiming to make Indian MSMEs export-ready.
  • The partnership aims to develop a startup kit for first-time exporters and MSMEs.
In a strategic move to enhance India's e-commerce exports, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with global logistics leader DHL. This collaboration is set to empower micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to enter international markets through e-commerce by providing comprehensive training and capacity-building in selected districts as part of DGFT's 'District as Export Hubs' initiative.

The MoU will focus on 76 districts, covering three phases of capacity-building sessions, training, and workshops aimed at making Indian MSMEs export-ready. Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal highlighted the initiative's potential to leverage India's growing digital infrastructure and connect rural MSMEs with the global market. He also emphasised the significance of the Bharat Mart initiative in advancing India's foreign trade and expressed hope that these efforts would bridge the knowledge gap for Indian entrepreneurs aspiring to participate in international trade.

Through this partnership, DGFT and DHL plan to gather a team of knowledge experts to guide Indian exporters and MSMEs in the identified districts. They aim to develop a startup kit specifically designed for first-time exporters and MSMEs looking to go global, providing them with the necessary support and resources to succeed in the international arena, the ministry of commerce and industry said in a press release.
