Alibaba Single's Day sales create new record

From midnight on November 1, when Alibaba's Global Shopping Festival’s first shopping window opened to 12:30 a.m. today, November 11, total gross merchandise volume (GMV) has exceeded RMB 372.3 billion ($56 billion). Also, the number of orders created at peak was 583,000 orders per second, showing economic rebound in China after the pandemic.

Travel restrictions is one of the reasons for the increase in 11.11 sales this year as consumers chose to buy online.

The China-headquartered e-commerce company held its mega shopping festival from November 1-3 and again on November 11, following the tradition it began in 2009.

Besides Alibaba, JD.com, Douyin and Pinduoduo are also hosting Singles Day sales. JD.com registered RMB 200 billion sales in the first nine minutes as sales opened on November 11, as per global newswire reports.
