American multinational company Amazon has officially expanded its global footprint with the launch of Amazon.co.za, its dedicated online store for South African customers. This new platform allows shoppers to access a wide variety of products spanning 20 different categories, featuring both local and international brands. Available through the Amazon Shopping App or via the website on both desktop and mobile browsers, the online store aims to enhance the shopping experience in the region.

With services designed for convenience and efficiency, Amazon.co.za offers same-day and next-day delivery options. Customers can also receive real-time updates on their orders via WhatsApp, ensuring they are informed of their order status at every step. The platform supports returns within 30 days, including options for home pickup and self-drop, along with customer support available through phone, email, and live chat, the company said in a press release.

In an effort to support local businesses and crafts, Amazon has partnered with Gogogogo, a South African non-profit organisation. This partnership allows customers to opt for their purchases to be packaged in unique gift bags made from recycled plastic and handsewn by local artisans. This initiative not only supports local craftsmanship but also aids GOGOs—grandmothers who are raising children—by providing them with income opportunities. Over four million children in South Africa are raised by GOGOs, and Amazon’s project aims to assist in improving life outcomes for these families.

Additionally, Amazon.co.za is set to empower independent South African sellers by offering them a platform to launch, grow, and scale their businesses. These sellers can leverage Amazon’s capabilities, valuable tools, and educational content to reach a broader audience and expand their market presence.

“We are excited to launch Amazon.co.za, along with thousands of independent sellers in South Africa. We provide customers with great value, broad selection—including international and local products—and a convenient delivery experience," said Robert Koen, managing director of Sub-Saharan Africa, Amazon. "From today, customers can count on Amazon.co.za for a stress-free shopping experience, fast and reliable delivery, access to 3,000 pickup points, 24/7 customer support, and easy returns. Customers will also enjoy free delivery on their first order.”
