Flipkart recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Assam government to promote the state’s art, craft and handloom sectors by bringing them into the e-commerce fold. The partnership with the Assam industries and commerce department under the Flipkart Samarth scheme will enable national market access for Assam’s artisans, weavers, and craftsmen, allowing them to showcase their hallmark products on Flipkart’s marketplace.

Both sides will focus on creating avenues to increase business and trade inclusion opportunities for these under-served segments of the society, thereby adding further thrust to the government’s initiative to build a self-reliant India, Flipkart said in a press release.

The MoU was signed in the presence of state minister of industry and commerce Chandra Mohan Patowary.

Flipkart Samarth recently completed one year and has further strengthened its benefits, including a nil commission waiver for the first six months. It has been playing a significant role in building capabilities within the rural and under-served society of the country and is today supporting the livelihood of more than 6,00,000 artisans, weavers and micro-enterprises across India.
