Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport has launched its first all-cargo service to Brazil, connecting southeast China's coastal city of Xiamen to Sao Paulo, the largest city in South America. The new service, operated by Ethiopian Airlines, departed from Xiamen airport, carrying 96.1 tonnes of cargo to Brazil. The cargo route will be operated by a Boeing B777F freighter.

This new all-cargo air service linking Xiamen to Sao Paulo is poised to enhance the transportation and logistics capabilities of both countries and further strengthen their trade relations.

This route will have scheduled flights every Friday in February, and every Monday and Friday from March, according to Chinese media reports.

The cargo exports from China will primarily consist of cross-border e-commerce products, high-tech products, medical products, and integrated circuits.

The new freight transport route is expected to promote the development of aviation logistics between China and Brazil, two of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) countries, Chinese media reports said, quoting Tekle G/Yohannes, chief representative of Ethiopian Airlines Greater China & Mongolia.

Yohannes has expressed the hope that Ethiopian Airlines will collaborate more with Xiamen airport in the future to open more flight routes and facilitate trade and personnel exchanges.

Xiamen, the host city of the 9th BRICS Summit in 2017, launched the BRICS Partnership on New Industrial Revolution Innovation Center in 2020.
