Turkiye hikes tax on goods purchased abroad, ordered by mail

Turkiye recently hiked the tax imposed on goods purchased abroad and ordered via mail and cargo by 66-100 per cent, according to the official gazette.

Tax on goods arriving from the European Union (EU) with a value not exceeding €30 has been raised from 18 per cent to 30 per cent, while that on goods bought from other countries was increased from 30 per cent to 60 per cent.

The international fast shipping shopping limit was reduced from €150 to €30, according to Turkish media outlets.

The decision will enter into force this month.

Trade minister Omer Bolat recently said the government is monitoring cheap shopping sites abroad.
