The adjusted estimate for US’ e-commerce sales in the second quarter (Q2) of 2023 was $277.6 billion, marking an increase of 2.1 per cent from Q1 2023, according to the latest figures by the Census Bureau of the Department of Commerce. In comparison, total retail sales remained virtually unchanged at $1,798.2 billion, with a negligible variation of plus or minus 0.2 per cent from the first quarter of the same year.The e-commerce sales estimate for Q2 2023 also saw an increase of 7.5 per cent from the second quarter of the previous year, while total retail sales increased only 0.6 per cent in the same period. As a result, e-commerce sales accounted for 15.4 per cent of total sales.

On an unadjusted basis, the US retail e-commerce sales for Q2 2023 totalled $269.5 billion, a rise of 6.6 per cent from Q1 2023. This reflects a growth of 7.7 per cent from the second quarter of 2022, while total retail sales witnessed a modest increase of 0.5 per cent in the same period. Unadjusted e-commerce sales in Q2 2023 accounted for 14.7 per cent of total sales, as per the Census Bureau.
