US-based e-retailer Amazon will set up its new African headquarters in Cape Town, South Africa. The government has approved planned mixed-use development on a 15-hectare property to boost the economy in the city and the Amazon headquarters will be the anchor tenant in the project. The development will take place in phases and will be completed in 3-5 years.The Precinct 2 of the project will house the Amazon headquarters, which will be spread over an area of 70,000 sq m, as per the City of Cape Town website.
The development project is expected to create 5,239 jobs during the construction phase, along with about 19,000 indirect and induced jobs.
