Peter Dundas has left Italian fashion house Roberto Cavalli after serving just a year and half as creative director. Dundas's exit comes after a period of instability at Cavalli. An Italian private equity firm Clessidra bought 90 per cent stake in the brand last year. Since then, Clessidra has outlined plans for complete overhaul of the company.

“On behalf of Roberto Cavalli and our shareholders, we thank Peter Dundas for his contribution to the brand, and we wish him well for his future,” said Gian Giacomo Ferraris, the chief executive, who joined the brand in July. “As Roberto Cavalli goes through a period of transformation, the design team will carry on and the appointment of a new creative director will be made in due course.”

“I am especially grateful to the ateliers and the teams who participated in this adventure,” said Dundas who joined Cavalli in March 2015.

Prior to Cavalli, Norwegian-born Dundas served Emilio Pucci as creative director since 2008. After studying at Parsons in New York, he started his career as assistant to Jean Paul Gaultier in 1992. After around eight years, he moved to Christian Lacroix, where he spent two years.

Then he worked as chief designer at Roberto Cavalli from 2002 to 2005, before moving on to work as creative director at Emanuel Ungaro and subsequently joining Emilio Pucci, owned by LVMH. So, in a way it was homecoming for Dundas at Roberto Cavalli, but it was short-lived. (RKS)
