An oldest catalogue fashion retailer Orvis Company gets benefits through .net-based program.
Leading lifestyle and sporting goods retailer reaps immediate benefits in crosschannel promotions and checkout speed
Retail software provider NSB announced The Orvis Company (Orvis) has successfully deployed the Connected Retailer Store Solution throughout its estate of more than 30 US stores. The rollout followed a successful two-store pilot in September, 2004 and was completed in less than four months.
Orvis has been the premier outfitter of distinctive country lifestyle and sporting traditions since 1856, operating catalog, retail, internet and wholesale businesses. Having replaced its legacy store systems with NSB's comprehensive Store Solution based on Microsoft .NET, Orvis is already experiencing many benefits, including:
- Better tracking of cross-channel promotions, using bar-coded direct marketing coupons at POS - Much faster checkouts of routine purchases: credit authorization and receipt printing now takes just 5 seconds instead of 45 - A much shorter learning curve for new sales associates, which has been reduced from weeks to days - Improved operational efficiency in back office store tasks like payroll management - Greatly reduced IS support requirements: Orvis no longer needs on-site IT support and 24/7 dedicated help desk technicians for its new stores
Orvis was determined to roll out the new software and hardware in the most aggressive time frame possible, to accommodate the opening of three new flagship stores. These three new stores added more than $2 million in sales during the holiday season alone, which made for a very quick ROI.
