London-born designer Stella McCartney recently launched the world's first biodegradable stretch denim line using plant-based yarns to mark her commitment to sustainable fashion by collaborating with Italian brand Candiani. The new sustainable collection includes 10 pieces designed in two styles, all made with Candiani's patented Coreva Stretch Technology.

Candiani’s current denim range is made using 100 per cent organic cotton, but the process involved in producing it requires a huge volume of water and toxic dyes and chemicals to create just one pair of jeans.

The Coreva Stretch Technology is produced in a safe, toxic-free environment, using organic cotton wrapped around a natural rubber core, according to British media reports.

This ensures the fabric is free from plastics and micro-plastics and biodegradable, without compromising on elasticity.

Alberto Candiani, owner of the Candiani family mill said in a statement that in a world where resources are diminishing and landfills are overflowing with discarded garments, it becomes a duty to look for renewable resources, in addition to biodegradable and compostable material.
