Australia's fibre exports were valued at $208.014 million in 2021, $103.209 million in 2020, and $63.158 million in 2019. In terms of quantity, Australia exported 26.390 million kg of fibre in 2022, 28.258 million kg in 2021, 15.826 million kg in 2020, and 7.871 million kg in 2019, according to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro.
The EU, being a significant garment producer, exports fashion garments globally. Australia's apparel imports from the EU-27 amounted to $105.218 million from January to April 2023. The previous year, imports were recorded at $304.648 million. In comparison, the country imported apparel worth $268.841 million in 2021, $220.766 million in 2020, and $253.886 million in 2019, as per TexPro.
During the first four months of this year, Europe was the second largest supplier of apparel to Australia. Nevertheless, Europe's share was only 4.30 per cent of total imports, which stood at $2,710.872 million during this period. Similarly, Europe was the second largest market for Australia's fibre exports, accounting for 5.62 per cent of the total shipment value of $1,188.034 million in the first four months of 2023.
