Japan's MMF production down 8.6% in June 2019

The production of man-made fibres (MMF) in Japan decreased by 8.6 per cent to 69,047 tons in June 2019, compared to the same month of the previous year, according to the Japan Chemical Fibers Association. For the January-June 2019 period, MMF production totalled 417,583 tons, registering a decrease of 6.6 per cent compared to the first six months of 2018.
 
Within the MMF category, synthetic fibre production dropped 10.1 per cent to 54,408 tons in June 2019, the association said.
 
Acrylic staple fibre (ASF) production decreased by 8 per cent to 10,671 tons in June, registering a decline for six consecutive months. Production of cellulosic fibres fell 2.4 per cent to 14,639 tons, while nylon filament production declined by 21 per cent to 5,487 tons.
 
Polyester filament output was down 6.6 per cent in June at 9,336 tons, while that of polyester staple fibre (PSF) was up by 3.4 per cent to 7,474 tons, the first increase since February.
 
Polypropylene filament production fell for the eighth straight month and nosedived 43.2 per cent to 2,690 tons, whereas polypropylene staple fibre output dropped 11.8 per cent to 5,196 tons.
 
At the end of June 2019, MMF producers in Japan had 95,249 tons in stock, which is 8.1 per cent more then June 2018 ending stocks. However, it was 1.4 per cent less compared to the stocks at the end of May 2019. (RKS)
