Japan's MMF production drops 2.3% in 2018

Man-made fibre (MMF) production in Japan decreased by 2.3 per cent year-on-year last year to 881,298 tons, according to the Japan Chemical Fibers Association. Among the major MMF varieties, acrylic staple fibre production was up, while output of polyester filament, polyester staple fibre (PSF), and nylon filament saw a decline, the data showed.

Among MMF, synthetic fibres production dropped 2.7 per cent year-on-year to 698,219 tons, whereas production of cellulosic fibres declined 0.7 per cent to 183,079 tons.

In terms of major fibre types, acrylic staple fibre production was up 3.2 per cent to 124,110 tons. Production of polyester filament, nylon filament and PSF was down 2.7 per cent, 7.2 per cent and 10.8 per cent respectively to 117,748 tons, 89,650 tons and 82,712 tons. (RKS)
