'Factory opening depends on COVID-19 situation'- BGMEA

Desk Report (RMG Times)  President of Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) on Thursday said they will try to open the factories on April 26 after considering the corona situation.

Rubana Huq Confirming the matter, BGMEA President Rubana Huq, “We changed our decision as per the directives from the director general of health directorate.”

“BGMEA will also consult with International Labour Organization (ILO), World Health Organization (WHO) and concerned authorities before doing that” she added.

On Thursday, 10 people died of coronavirus in Bangladesh, raising the death toll to the highest number in a single day as of now, and 342 were tested positive.

The BGMEA president also mentioned that they will try to take the best possible measures for the safety of workers.

Earlier in the day, BGMEA decided to reopen its factories from April 26, a day after the ongoing shutdown ends.

Later, the government declared the entire Bangladesh at risk of a coronavirus pandemic as the number of Covid-19 positive cases across the country has increased sharply in the last few days.

And BGMEA has backtracked from its previous decision to reopen its factories from April 26 considering the current coronavirus situation.
