Imports of made-up textiles amounted to $35.338 million in the first seven months of the year, making it the second most significant category, representing 20.20 per cent of total imports. Floor textiles imports totalled $23.478 million (13.42 per cent), while bathroom and kitchen textiles amounted to $17.276 million (9.88 per cent), and window textiles were valued at $14.996 million (8.57 per cent), according to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro.
Other notable categories among the top 10 home textile imports included camping textiles (5.72 per cent), sacks and bags (3.17 per cent), furnishing articles (3.17 per cent), worn clothing (1.21 per cent), and table textiles (0.83 per cent).
New Zealand’s home textile imports in 2024 were 5.17 per cent higher than the $165.094 million imported between January and July 2023. In 2023, the total imports stood at $295.654 million, representing a significant decline compared to 2022. New Zealand’s home textile imports dropped by 27.51 per cent in 2023 compared to the previous year, according to TexPro.
In 2023, bed textiles imports were valued at $80.760 million, accounting for 27.35 per cent of total home textile imports. Made-up textiles imports amounted to $62.425 million (21.11 per cent), floor textiles $36.477 million (12.34 per cent), bathroom and kitchen textiles $30.562 million (10.34 per cent), and camping textiles $29.107 million (9.85 per cent).
