Muhammad Abraul Hasan Mojumder, Jessore’s deputy commissioner, formally handed over the land recently, as per reports.
The decision to create an EPZ in Jessore was made in 2019 even as the project aims to develop 400 industrial plots, attracting an investment of $2 billion.
Upon becoming fully operational, the EPZ is projected to generate 150,000 direct and 300,000 indirect employment opportunities, contributing $2.4 billion annually to the country’s exports.
Mohammad Faruque Alam, BEPZA’s member for engineering, and Md Yousuf Pasha, the project director of Jessore EPZ, were present at the handover ceremony.
Currently, BEPZA oversees eight export processing zones, including Chittagong, Dhaka, Mongla, Ishwardi, Comilla, Uttara, Adamjee, and Karnaphuli EPZs.
With the establishment of Jessore EPZ, the authority aims to further boost industrial growth and enhance Bangladesh’s export capacity.
