India's Bihar mulls nurturing state into textile, leather industry hub

India's Bihar government plans to transform the state into a textile and leather industry hub by cultivating a conducive environment through policy support and better infrastructure, a top government official said.

Officials from the state recently visited Tiruppur in Tamil Nadu to study the textile and leather sector and gain insights.

India’s Bihar government plans to transform the state into a textile hub by cultivating a conducive environment through policy support and better infrastructure, Alok Ranjan Ghosh, state director of industries, said.

The state is making efforts to make Bihar a key player in the textile and leather sector and generate employment on a large scale, he said.

Officials from the state’s department of industries recently visited Tiruppur in Tamil Nadu to study the textile and leather sector and gain actionable insights and forge strategic collaborations, the state government said in an official release.

"By fostering a conducive environment through infrastructure, policy support, and incentives, we aim to transform Bihar into a thriving hub for textiles and generate large-scale employment opportunities," Ghosh added.

The delegation also visited Ranipet in Tamil Nadu to study the zero liquid discharge (ZLD) plant that treats tannery wastewater and recycles 85 per cent of that for reuse.

The delegation met members from the Council of Leather Exports (CLE) in Chennai to discuss opportunities in the state’s leather sector.
