Employees working in the cotton textile sector across South Africa would get 7.75 per cent wage hike with effect from July 1, 2018. This was agreed at a meeting of the National Textile Bargaining Council attended by the South African Cotton & Textile Processing Employers’ Association (SACTPEA) and Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers’ Union (SACTWU).The agreement also states that the wage increase for workers in the country’s cotton textile sector would be 7.5 per cent for the next year beginning July 1, 2019, SACTWU said in a press release.
The 7.75 per cent wage increase is less than the average wage increase of 10 per cent in the home textiles sector agreed last month. (RKS)
