In the month of September, two of the four production sectors reported a rise in output, but the overall contribution remained minimal with manufacturing only seeing a slight increase of 0.1 per cent. Despite this, the manufacturing sector did see some positive movements, with a 0.1 per cent increase in output. This growth was uneven, however, with five of the thirteen sub-sectors experiencing uplifts.
The quarterly perspective offers a similar view of stagnation. The third quarter of 2023 (July to September) showed no growth in production output when matched against the second quarter of the same year (April to June), which itself had enjoyed a growth of 1.2 per cent. Despite the overall flat growth, the manufacturing sector was highlighted as the main positive contributor in the third quarter of 2023, as per ONS.
