Cambodian garments-footwear-travel goods exports up 17% YoY in H1 2024

Cambodia’s exports of garments, footwear and travel goods (GFT) increased by 16.89 per cent year on year (YoY) in the first half (H1) this year to $6.15 billion, according to fresh data released by the General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE). 

In June alone, such exports earned $1.26 billion—a rise of 4.21 per cent YoY.

Exports of knitted apparel articles and clothing accessories earned $2.79 billion during the six-month period—a growth of 13 per cent YoY, while those of non-knitted apparel items brought in $1.53 billion—a growth of 30.1 per cent YoY.

Footwear exports earned $774 million during the period—an increase of 10.5 per cent YoY, and leather and travel goods another $948 million—a growth of 13.5 per cent over the same period.

Other made-up textile articles earned $102 million in H1 2024—a growth of 36.8 per cent.

Exports of knitted apparel articles and clothing accessories, however, dropped by 1.7 per cent YoY in June. Exports of travel goods also declined by 5.6 per cent YoY in June.

Exports of non-knitted apparel articles rose by 21.9 per cent YoY and those of footwear by 12 per cent YoY in June this year.

GFT exports rose this year after declining continuously for nearly 18 months since mid-2022, resulting in factory closures and job losses.

Close to half of the country’s total export earnings of $12.29 billion between January and June this year came from GFT goods.

The country’s GFT exports declined by 13.31 per cent YoY in 2023.
