The UK’s imports of woven sportswear totalled $48.352 million from January to May 2024. Out of this total, imports from China amounted to $11.087 million during the period, representing 22.93 per cent of the total. Bangladesh's share was noted at 22.38 per cent, with imports valued at $10.823 million during the same period. Both countries have strong competition in the garment segment, according to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro.
Imports from the third-largest supplier, Turkiye, were recorded at $4.482 million, accounting for 9.27 per cent of the total. Imports from Sri Lanka amounted to $4.356 million (9.01 per cent), and those from Cambodia reached $3.661 million (7.57 per cent) during the same period.In 2023, the UK’s imports of woven sportswear were valued at $21.783 million, which represented 26.91 per cent of its total woven sportswear imports of $80.957 million. Bangladesh's share was significantly lower at 18.63 per cent last year, with imports from the second-largest supplier amounting to $15.085 million. Imports from Turkiye were valued at $9.053 million (11.18 per cent), Sri Lanka at $4.936 million (6.10 per cent), and Indonesia at $4.235 million (5.23 per cent), according to TexPro.
The UK imported woven sportswear worth $79.410 million in 2022. China's share was 29.38 per cent, Bangladesh's 14.67 per cent, Turkiye's 10.06 per cent, Cambodia's 5.87 per cent, and Italy's 5.68 per cent of the inbound shipments.
