India's merchandise exports in Apr-Jun 2021 worth $95.36 bn

India’s merchandise exports in June were worth $32.46 billion, a rise of 47.34 per cent and 29.7 per cent over $22.03 billion in June 2020 and $25.03 billion in June 2019 respectively. Merchandise exports in April-June were worth $95.36 billion, an increase of 85.36 per cent and 17.85 per cent over $51.44 billion in 2020 and $80.91 billion in 2019 respectively during the same duration.

The country’s merchandise imports in June 2021 were worth $41.86 billion, an increase of 96.33 per cent and 2.03 per cent over $21.32 billion in June 2020 and $41.03 billion in June 2019.

Merchandise imports in April-June this year were worth $126.14 billion, an increase of 107.99 per cent over $60.65 billion in April-June 2020 and a decrease of 3.05 per cent over $130.1 billion during the same duration in 2019, according to the commerce ministry.

India is thus a net importer in June 2021 with a trade deficit of $9.4 billion, widened by 1426.6 per cent over trade surplus of $0.71 billion in June 2020 (India was net exporter in June 2020) and narrowed down by 41.26 per cent over trade deficit of $16.0 billion in June 2019.

Cotton yarn/fabrics/made-ups and handloom products showed a positive export growth of 50.86 per cent in June 2021 over June 2019.

For the same comparison period, handicrafts and exclusive hand-made carpets witnessed an export growth of 18.83 per cent; man-made yarn/fabrics/made-ups saw an export growth of 23.66 per cent; and jute manufacturing (including floor covering) witnessed a growth of 23.97 per cent, an official press release said.

Export of readymade garments of all textiles witnessed a negative growth of 18.76 per cent and that of leather and leather products also saw a negative growth of 21 per cent.

Import of leather & leather products witnessed a negative growth of 18.43 per cent and that of textile yarn, fabric, and made-up articles dropped by 9.66 per cent in June 2021 over June 2019.
