The import of trousers and shorts was valued at $91.302 million in the first four months of the current year, accounting for 16.93 per cent of Italy’s total apparel imports during this period. The second most imported item was jerseys, valued at $70.661 million, representing 13.10 per cent of the total. Among the top five products, the import of dresses was $49.780 million (9.23 per cent), shirts $43.647 million (8.09 per cent), and jackets and blazers $39.805 million (7.38 per cent), according to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro.
Last year, Italy’s apparel imports from China totalled $1,840.217 million. Jerseys were the top imported product, with imports valued at $410.343 million, making up 22.30 per cent of the total. Trousers and shorts ranked second, with imports valued at $254.816 million, accounting for 13.85 per cent.
The imports of dresses amounted to $140.335 million (7.63 per cent), accessories $122.920 million (6.68 per cent), and jackets and blazers $112.753 million (6.13 per cent).
As per TexPro, China was the top supplier of Italy’s apparel imports. However, Italy’s apparel imports have become more diversified in terms of sourcing destinations. China’s share was 11.13 per cent of Italy’s total apparel imports of $5,699.977 million in the first four months of the current year. In 2023, Italy’s total apparel imports reached $19.671 billion, with China’s share at 12.80 per cent during the same period.
