The country’s exports of knitted and crocheted clothing and accessories (HS Chapter 61) reached $4,763.562 million in January-June 2024, marking a 7.1 per cent decrease from $5,129.097 million in the same period of the previous year. Meanwhile, non-knitted apparel and accessories (HS Chapter 62) amounted to $3,773.269 million, representing a 13.4 per cent drop compared to $4,356.250 million in January-June 2023, as per the trade report of the top twenty chapters.
In June 2024, Turkiye’s garment exports saw a decline, easing by 18.44 per cent to $1,278.554 million. Exports of knitted and crocheted clothing and accessories dipped by 14.9 per cent, totalling $744.402 million in June 2024, compared to $875.003 million in June 2023. Shipments of non-knitted apparel and accessories also declined, dropping by 22.9 per cent from $693.112 million in June 2023 to $534.152 million in the same month of 2024.
The imports of cotton, cotton yarn, and cotton textiles (HS Chapter 52) by Turkiye also dipped by 14.1 per cent to $1,358.705 million in January-June 2024, down from $1,581.310 million in the same period of last year. Its imports decreased by 23.8 per cent to $241.005 million in June 2024, down from $316.234 million in the same period of last year. It is the only textile product featured in Turkiye's top 20 chapters in its imports in June 2024.
In 2023, the country’s apparel exports eased by 5.86 per cent to $18.321 billion from $19.463 billion in 2022. Turkiye's apparel exports were recorded at $18.294 billion in 2021.
