Turkiye's apparel exports to Israel to see significant drop this year

Apparel exports from Türkiye to Israel are likely to witness significant fall this year, as the latter has announced suspension of all trade activities with the Jewish country, over its continued military campaign in Gaza.

Israel is one of the important garment markets for Turkish apparel exports. It was the thirteenth largest market for Turkiye’s apparel exports in 2023, when the country had exported apparel worth $311.205 million.

According to Fibre2Fashion’s market insight tool TexPro, Turkiye’s apparel exports to Israel were 1.82 per cent of its total apparel exports of $17.076 million. The shipment may be considered significant considering tiny size of Israel.

Turkiye’s apparel exports dropped 33.16 per cent in 2023 over the shipment of $465.575 million in 2022. The shipment was noted at $312.078 million 2018 which gained 11.08 per cent to $346.656 million in 2019, but it dipped 8.71 per cent to reach at $316.465 million in the following year 2020. Turkiye’s apparel exports jumped 45.56 per cent to $463.806 million in 2021, and further inched up 0.38 per cent to $465.575 million in 2022.

During January-February 2024, Israel’s share in Turkiye’s total apparel exports dipped to 1.40 per cent. The shipment to Israel was valued at $36.814 million out of Turkiye’s total apparel exports of $2.625 billion in the same period.

As per TexPro, home textile exports from Turkiye to Israel was $75.543 million in 2023, which was 1.63 per cent of its total shipment of $4.629 billion. Israel was eleventh largest market for the exporting country. The shipment of Israel dipped 35.47 per cent in 2023 from $117.057 million in 2022. During the first two months of the current year, Turkiye exported home textiles of $13.510 million, which was 1.77 per cent of its total shipment of $763.314 million.

On the other hand, Turkiye was the second largest supplier after China in Israel’s apparel imports which was total $2.245 billion in 2023. The country imported apparel of $379.460 million in total during January-February 2024. Turkiye remained second largest supplier in the trade. Turkiye was positioned as third largest supplier in terms of Israeli imports of home textiles during the last year and first two months of the current year. Its imports totalled $346.459 million in 2023 and $57.101 million in the first two months of this year.
