In a statement after meeting Indian high commissioner Harsh Vardhan Shringla, commerce minister Tofail Ahmed said, “There is high demand for Bangladeshi goods in India; however, complexities have risen related to the export of some products, including jute. Currently, Bangladesh based jute goods producers are facing anti-dumping investigations from India, on complaints that local exporters have exported jute goods at prices which are far lower than fair market prices.
The anti-dumping investigation was initiated following complaints from the Indian Jute Mills Association that Bangladeshi exporters were exporting jute goods products at prices lower than those in India's domestic market. (AR)
