Burberry, a British luxury fashion house, has won the Luxury with a Heart award at Walpole British Luxury Awards for a brand ‘most dedicated to making the world a better place’. The annual Walpole British Luxury Awards is the only event dedicated to celebrating the very best high-end products and services from a diverse range of British businesses.

The Luxury with a Heart award, given last month, recognises impactful sustainability initiatives and those using power of their voice to speak out on behalf of others.

Pam Batty, VP of corporate responsibility at Burberry, said: “We are thrilled to be recognised for our work in building a more sustainable future for luxury. We have had environmental and social programmes in place for more than 15 years and recently made some exciting developments, including introducing a collection made from econyl yarn—using repurposed fishing nets, fabric scraps and industrial plastic—and setting two ambitious science-based targets covering our extended supply chain. Looking to the future, we hope to expand our efforts even further to continue to effect real change in our industry.”

Helen Brocklebank, CEO of Walpole, added: “Whilst Burberry has always had sustainability and citizenship at the heart of its business, it’s been hugely exciting to see how fast Burberry has been moving the dial over the last two years. Named as the leading sustainable luxury brand by the Dow Jones Sustainability Index and committing to ambitious science-based targets as well as empowering the communities in which it manufactures, this award recognises the work Burberry has done to set a tangible example of leadership in sustainable behaviour. It’s the north star every British luxury brand can follow.”
