LVMH, a high-quality products group, and its brand Maisons has announced their active engagement since the outbreak of Covid-19 crisis to help battle the spread of the virus. The group’s teams are showing their spirit of solidarity through aid for medical personnel, production of essential materials, donations, and a host of other initiatives.

Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior Couture, Celine, Kenzo and Fred have all begun making or supporting production or distribution of large quantities of alternative non-surgical face masks to help protect against contamination, as well as hospital gowns.

With hospitals around the world facing shortages of materials and equipment, the private sector has quickly stepped up to help in the fight against Covid-19. Louis Vuitton and Christian Dior and their teams have been working for weeks after repurposing their production workshops to make alternative non-surgical face masks for the general public.

Christian Dior reopened its Redon workshop in Brittany, which normally makes Baby Dior clothes. Volunteer staff are now making protective gear that is indispensable to slow propagation of the virus. Masks are being distributed first to workers in contact with the public in order to keep essential activities open in the country, including cashiers in supermarkets, retailers and employees in government services. Christian Dior Couture also delivered 300 gowns to the American hospital in Neuilly-sur-Seine.

Louis Vuitton has geared up several of its French workshops to make large quantities of officially certified non-surgical face masks. Over 300 leather goods artisans are mobilised at twelve Louis Vuitton workshops in Marsaz and Saint-Donat (Drôme), Condé (Indre), Saint-Pourçain (Allier), Ducey (Manche) and Sainte-Florence (Vendée). The masks are being made in partnership with Mode Grand Ouest, a grouping of regional textile firms that is providing one of the key materials production. The masks are also being distributed for the most vulnerable segments of the population, including the Marpa nursing home for seniors in Sainte-Florence and the Saint-Vincent de Paul retirement home in Essarts in Bocage.

In addition, Louis Vuitton is making  gowns for frontline hospital workers in Paris hospitals, which face a serious shortage of protective clothing. The gowns are being made by volunteers at a workshop near Louis Vuitton headquarters in Paris.

Jewellery house Fred has joined the “Visières de l’Espoir” initiative, which is making full face shields for hospital medical staff. Celine has mobilised its resources and teams as well to help Paris hospitals. Some 50,000 gowns have already been donated to Paris hospital staff.

Moët Hennessy has sent nearly 1,000 gowns to Professor Zehra at the Montreuil hospital, while La Grande Epicerie de Paris donated 400 gowns to self-employed nurses in the 7th arrondissement of Paris.
Kenzo has made fabric available – including from the Savoir-Faire Ensemble platform – to enable the manufacture of thousands of masks and gowns. The company has also produced 1,000 gowns for the staff of the Montreuil hospital and is making its production resources and fabric available for the manufacture of 1,000 additional units.
