OEKO-TEX® has partnered with Quantis, a leading science-based sustainability consultancy, to develop a transparent methodology and data models to help textile manufacturing sites quantify their carbon and water impacts. The new tool will be integrated with STeP by OEKO-TEX®, by the end of 2021, enabling production sites to calculate carbon emissions.

Under the Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action, over 100 fashion brands have committed to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by 30 per cent by 2030. The new tool will support these and other companies on this journey, OEKO-TEX® said.

With the new tool, production sites will have a simple, user-friendly digital tool to calculate carbon emissions and water, whether for the entire site, per process step, annual production or 1 kg of material.

For providing comprehensive information on the new tool, OEKO-TEX® is organising a webinar "Carbon and Water Footprinting in the Textile Value Chain" on Thursday, May 6, 2021, 3-4 pm CET.

Attendees to the webinar will be able to learn exciting insights directly from the developers and users of the new STeP by OEKO-TEX® Carbon and Water Footprint Tool. Sönke Giebeler, head of Business Development at OEKO-TEX® will share the vision and importance the Footprint tool offers the industry.

Tereza Lévová, from Quantis, will explain the underlying methodology and how to understand the data behind the tool. Senthilnathan Vijayaraj, sustainability manager from Atlas Export Enterprises, will share the facility perspective including user-experience and value for the industry.
