The decrease in the growth on an annual basis of all-item index was mainly due to the prices of non-regulated energy products, which fell from minus 10.3 per cent to minus 13.9 per cent, and of non-durable goods, which fell from 2 per cent to 1.5 per cent.
The prices of regulated energy products increased from minus 13.8 per cent to minus 1.3 per cent.
The CPI for clothing and footwear increased by 1.5 per cent YoY in April, while there was no change MoM.
In April this year, core inflation (excluding energy and unprocessed food) was 2.1 per cent (from 2.3 per cent in March) and inflation excluding energy was 2.1 per cent (from 2.4 per cent in March).
As for goods, the year on year growth rate was -0.6 per cent (from -0.2 per cent in March) and for Services the annual rate of change was +2.9 per cent (from +3.0 per cent). As a consequence, the inflationary gap between Services and Goods increased (from +3.2 percentage points in March to +3.5).
In April, the rate of change of the Italian harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP) was 0.5 per cent on monthly basis, mainly due to the end of the winter sales of clothing and footwear, and 0.9 per cent on an annual basis (from 1.2 per cent in March).
