American e-retailer Amazon has announced the opening of its first fulfilment centre in Turkiye, for which Amazon will create 1,000 new jobs within the first year of opening for local communities. The multinational company is investing more than 100 million dollars in the new site in Tuzla, Istanbul, to help meet growing customer demand in Turkiye.

Recruitment for the new Amazon fulfilment centre started earlier this year for a range of new roles, including engineers, HR, and IT professionals, through to health and safety specialists, and the teams who pick, pack, and ship customer orders. Employees join a modern, safe, and engaging work environment with competitive pay and a comprehensive benefits package, including employee discounts on Amazon.com.tr, supplementary medical, life and accident insurance, enhanced parental leave, and more.

“We are delighted to open our first fulfilment centre in Turkiye, providing good quality jobs in a wide range of roles, from engineers and IT professionals to the teams who pick, pack, and ship the customer orders,” Hakan Karadogan, general manager of Amazon Operations Turkiye.

“The new fulfilment centre will create more than 1,000 new jobs within the first year of opening, providing our employees with competitive pay, a comprehensive benefits package, and opportunities for professional growth while working in a safe, modern, and inclusive workplace,” he added.

Amazon also announced that there are now more than 25,000 SMBs in Turkiye selling professionally on Amazon, up over 50 per cent year-on-year. To date, Turkish SMBs selling on Amazon have created over 35,000 jobs in Turkiye to support their business online. Their export sales more than doubled year-on-year, recording over €300 million in 2021.

Over 6,000 Turkish SMBs have taken advantage of Fulfilment by Amazon, and their sales also doubled year-on-year. Globally SMBs sell more than 50 per cent of everything purchased in our store and account for about 60 per cent of sales. Amazon in Turkiye is also continuing to innovate to enable SMBs to grow their business by reaching hundreds of millions of customers, establish their brands, grow sales, and create jobs, with many using Fulfilment by Amazon services, added the release.

“I am excited that today we are opening our first fulfilment centre in Turkiye. Our new state-of-the-art fulfilment centre will significantly enhance our ability to support small businesses selling on Amazon.com.tr, which has increased by 50 per cent in one year, to further grow their businesses with our Fulfilment by Amazon services. The investment in the fulfilment centre and our selling partners is a demonstration of our commitment to Turkiye,” said Richard Marriott, country manager, Amazon Turkiye.
