The figure was 9.74 per cent in June, according to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).
While food inflation increased last month, non-food inflation came down. Non-food inflation rate declined to 7.95 per cent in August from 9.47 per cent in July.
The general point-to-point inflation both at the urban and rural areas also increased last month. It was 9.98 per cent in rural areas in the month (9.75 per cent in July) and 9.63 per cent in urban areas (9.43 per cent in July), domestic media outlets reported.
The annual average inflation from September last year to August this year was 9.24 per cent.
