Turnover in the non-food sector rose by 2.6 per cent YoY in the month. Sales volume (turnover adjusted for price changes) was up by 1.2 per cent YoY.
Retail turnover data have been adjusted for the shopping-day pattern in December, as these may vary from one day to the next. If the shopping-day pattern is not taken into account, retail turnover in December last year was 1.9 per cent higher YoY.
Shops selling apparel, footwear and leather products saw YoY turnover growth in December. However, shops selling furniture and home furnishings recorded a drop, a CBS release said.
Online retail turnover decreased by 1.2 per cent YoY in the month. Web shops recorded a turnover increase of 1.3 per cent. However, multi-channel retailers recorded 4.6 per cent lower turnover in online sales.
Online turnover of clothing and fashion items was lower in December.
Retail turnover in the Netherlands, adjusted for shopping days, was 5.6 per cent higher YoY last year.
