The prices of manufactured products declined by 0.3 per cent, following a steady rate in November. Energy prices also decreased by 1.2 per cent, as per INSEE.
When seasonally adjusted, consumer prices in France increased by 0.3 per cent in December 2023, after a 0.1 per cent increase in November. Year-on-year (YoY), consumer prices rose by 3.7 per cent in December, compared to a 3.5 per cent increase in November. This inflationary rise was largely attributed to a YoY acceleration in energy prices, which increased by 5.7 per cent, up from 3.1 per cent in November. However, the prices of manufactured products experienced a slowdown, growing by 1.4 per cent YoY, compared to 1.9 per cent in November.
YoY, prices of manufactured products continued to slow down, increasing by 1.4 per cent in December 2023, after a 1.9 per cent rise in November. The prices of clothing and footwear also slowed down, with a YoY increase of 1.1 per cent, compared to 1.8 per cent in November.
Core inflation, which excludes volatile items such as energy and food, showed a slight decline YoY, decreasing to 3.4 per cent in December 2023 from 3.6 per cent in November.
The harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP) also reflected a slight monthly rebound of 0.1 per cent, following a 0.2 per cent increase in November. YoY, the HICP rose by 4.1 per cent in December 2023, up from 3.9 per cent in the previous month.
