While there is an overall upward trend in inflation, the prices of manufactured products are expected to experience a slowdown. This trend represents a significant shift in the inflationary pressures affecting different sectors of the French economy.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices are predicted to show a marginal rebound in December 2023, with an increase of 0.1 per cent, following a 0.2 per cent rise in November. This modest increase is noteworthy, considering the expected decrease in the prices of manufactured products and energy compared to the previous month, as per INSEE.
Furthermore, the harmonised index of consumer prices is also set to rise. It's projected to increase by 4.1 per cent year-on-year in December 2023, a jump from the 3.9 per cent increase seen in November. Similar to the CPI, the harmonised index is expected to see a very slight month-on-month increase of 0.1 per cent, consistent with the trend observed in the previous month.
