The real price-adjusted turnover of retail enterprises in Germany was 1.3 per cent lower in August this year and the nominal (not price-adjusted) turnover was 0.1 per cent higher in the month on a calendar- and seasonally-adjusted basis compared to July, according to provisional results of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) released recently.

Compared with August last year, retail trade recorded a 4.3 per cent decrease in turnover in real terms and a nominal increase of 5.4 per cent in August this year.

The difference between the results in real and nominal terms reflects the high price increases in retail trade.
