Vietnam’s retail sales of goods in January 2023 rose by 18.1 per cent year-on-year (YoY) to reach 435.4 trillion VND, as per the General Statistics Office (GSO). The increase in sales was due to growing consumption demand with the country’s major festival Tet (Lunar New Year) falling in the same period. Among goods, the sharpest surge in sales was noted for garments at 27 per cent.“Market management forces have intensified inspections and supervisions, especially on e-commerce platforms and social networks, while coordinating with other competent agencies in controlling the quality of oil and gas products,” said Hoang Anh Duong, deputy general director of the market surveillance agency under the ministry of industry and trade, was quoted as saying by local media reports.
Purchasing power in Vietnam jumped around 8-10 per cent MoM during the period and remained constant on a YoY basis covering various types of goods.
