Intersport International Corp (IIC), an international sporting goods retailer, held its annual general meeting on a virtual basis on September 4, 2020. Two new members, Jacky Rihouet (chairman of Intersport France) and Lars Kristian Lindberg (CEO of Intersport Norway), of the board were elected with Rick White a new chairman was appointed.

In 2019/20, the license and service organisation of the international Intersport Group continued to deliver a solid performance despite the Covid-19 crisis.

The delegates of the national Intersport Organisations met virtually for their annual gathering. The meeting approved all statutory required motions and newly appointed part of the IIC board. Rihouet and Lindberg replace Corinne Gensollen (CEO of Intersport France) and Jussi Mikkola the long-term IIC board member (since 2001), vice-chairman (since 2009) and chairman (since 2014). Other members are Mathias Boenke (Germany) elected until the general meeting 2021, and Ignasi Puig (Spain) and Rick White (Canada) elected until the General Meeting 2022.

Following the elections, the new board met to appoint with White a new chairman for the term of office of one year. Vice-chairman will be Mathias Boenke.

“In these difficult times, we will have no choice but to boldly tackle the group's challenges and find new approaches. I am convinced that the IIC board of management, in its new composition of longstanding and new members and the IIC executive management, have the know-how and experience to find and implement convincing solutions based on the Intersport 2.0 strategy. I look forward to continuing the smart verticalisation of the business and to strengthen the international cooperation among the Intersport organisations and in co-operation with strategic business partners and brands,” White said in a press release.

“The 2019/20 fiscal year began with positive sales developments in many markets, which were then partially offset by a very warm winter, especially in Scandinavia. Already at the beginning of the year 2020, the changes as a result of the Covid-19 crisis became noticeable and gave us a complete shakeup. In the meantime, business has revived and our business model with strong regional partners and retailers shows its strengths combined with efficient omnichannel solutions. We are aware that we must face many challenges and changes, but we are convinced that we will be able to emerge stronger and more unified from the crisis,” IIC CEO Steve Evers said.
