The monthly comparison paints a similarly challenging picture. When compared with October 2023, retail sales decreased by 2.8 per cent, indicating a downturn in consumer spending. This decline is more pronounced when looking at the broader January-November 2023 period, where sales decreased year-on-year by 2.4 per cent, a stark contrast to the 5.4 per cent growth recorded in 2022.
However, sales via the internet at current prices saw a substantial increase of 27.2 per cent in November compared to October 2023. The share of sales conducted via the internet in total sales rose from 9 per cent in October to 11.7 per cent in November 2023, as per Statistics Poland.
This shift towards digital platforms is evident across various retail groups, with a notable increase in the textiles, clothing, and footwear sector. The share of online sales in this category jumped from 19.9 per cent to an impressive 24.5 per cent.
