Price hike plans dip among German firms in February 2024

In a notable shift, fewer companies in Germany are planning to increase their prices, according to the latest survey from the ifo Institute. The ifo price expectations for February have seen a decrease to 15 points, down from 18.8 points in January, indicating a cooling in the inclination towards raising prices across various sectors.

The downtrend in price expectations is particularly pronounced in consumer-related sectors, where the figures dropped from 32.4 points to 28.9 points.  In the retail sector, there is a slight upward movement in price expectations, from 28.8 points to 29.8 points.

The manufacturing sector presents a mixed picture, with only a small majority of companies surveyed indicating plans to hike their prices. Here, price expectations have marginally increased to 4.9 points from 4.3 points.
