With more people working from home, UK sales of loungewear and leggings rose by 1,303 per cent last year, according to the annual ‘Shop Live Look’ report released by John Lewis that reveals how the pandemic reshaped lives in the country in 2020. Sales of high heeled shoes and party handbags were down by 62 per cent and 56 per cent respectively.

Sales of loungewear this winter show no signs of slowing down, however, the survey found. Sales of chintzy floral curtains and patterned upholstery increased by 20 per cent.

Online now accounts for 60-70 per cent of John Lewis sales whereas before the pandemic, it was only 40 per cent and customers are now shopping during the working day (11am-4pm) rather than their evenings (7pm-10pm).

From transforming spare bedrooms into workspaces to turning our gardens into summer holiday destinations, Britons fell back in love with their homes last year, the report adds.
