US apparel CPI rises MoM in Sept; increases 1.8% over last 12 months

The US consumer price index for all urban consumers (CPI-U) increased by 0.2 per cent month on month (MoM) on a seasonally-adjusted basis in September this year, the same increase as in August and July, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

Over the last 12 months, the all items index increased by 2.4 per cent before seasonal adjustment—the smallest 12-month increase since February 2021.

The energy index fell by 1.9 per cent month on month (MoM) in September, after declining by 0.8 per cent in the preceding month. It decreased by 6.8 per cent over the past 12 months.

The index for all items less food and energy rose by 0.3 per cent in September, as it did the preceding month. This index rose by 3.3 per cent over the last 12 months.

Indices which increased in September MoM include that of apparel. Other indices with notable increases over the last year include apparel (plus 1.8 per cent), a BLS release said.
